The story of our engagement.
October 21st, 2003

Anne and I met at work and have been dating for about three years. Since we started our relationship, my life has changed dramatically. Anne has changed my outlook on life, the future, and the role of family. She has helped past challenges that were in the way of my success in long term relationships. She has boosted my confidence as an entrepreneur, and has taught me how to truly love family and friends. She quickly brought so much joy into my life. I knew she was the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with within the first year of the relationship.

Anne and I had been together for a little over two years. We had discussed marriage quite a bit, and we had done some shopping together looking at rings. She had a pretty good idea that I was ready to pop-the-question, but I wanted to surprise her. I had planned to ask her at dinner, on a hot-air balloon, and other places, but the moment I asked surprised even me!

I was laying half asleep thinking about how much this relationship meant to me, I could not sleep. I had to get it out. I went into the room and woke her at 5:00 in the morning, got down on my knee and asked her to marry me. I guess I could not hold it in any longer. Tim and Kim's wedding had postponed me from asking as I did not want to shift any attention from them as it was their special time.

She said yes. I put her ring on and the excitement boiled in both our hearts. Everything felt 100% right, except that it was 5:00 in the morning!

We celebrated the engagement with a dinner at the City Grill, a restaurant that overlooks downtown Portland. We reserved window seats and toasted to our new lives. Shortly after, Mary Anne and John hosted a wonderful engagement party at their home in Portland. It was a great party, and we all got to meet John and Tamber's new baby.

I am so grateful to have such a loving, caring, and FUN partner for life. I can not wait for the wedding, as I love to introduce Anne to my friends and family. It does not take long to see why I choose to marry her. I love you Belle!
